FAQ - Hot Air Ballooning

Do you fly from Hekpoort?

No, our balloon flights do not depart from Hekpoort. Hekpoort is where our office is located, but our flights take off from designated launch sites in the Magaliesberg and other scenic areas.

When do you fly?

Flights typically take place in the morning, with the meeting time set one hour before sunrise. This early start ensures the most stable weather conditions for a smooth and enjoyable flight. The exact flight time will be confirmed upon booking.

How long is the balloon flight?

Balloon flights usually last around one hour, depending on wind strength and topography. The entire hot air balloon experience, including preparation and post-flight activities, takes between three to four hours.

How high do you go?

Flights generally occur between the treetops and 3,000 feet above ground level. The altitude varies depending on wind conditions and the pilot's navigation.

How far do you travel?

The distance traveled by the balloon can range from 5 to 20 kilometers, influenced by wind speed and direction. The pilot maintains radio contact with a retrieval vehicle that follows the balloon on the ground to ensure a seamless landing and pickup.

Does it get cold up there?

The temperature can be cooler upon arrival, but it generally warms up as the flight progresses. In fact, it tends to be warmer inside the balloon compared to the ground due to the heat from the burner.
