FAQ

Find answers to the most common questions about our hot air balloon experiences. Learn about flight schedules, duration, altitude, distance, weather, and what to expect during your adventure. If you have further questions, feel free to contact us directly.

Do you fly from Hekpoort?

No, our balloon flights do not depart from Hekpoort. While our office is located there, flights take off from designated launch sites in the Magaliesberg and the Cradle of Humankind.

When do you fly?

Flights are typically in the early morning, with a meeting time set about one hour before sunrise. This ensures the most stable weather conditions for a smooth and enjoyable flight. Exact times will be confirmed when you book.

How long is the flight?

Balloon flights usually last around one hour, depending on wind and terrain. Including preparation, inflation, landing, and post-flight activities, the total experience takes 3–4 hours.

How high do you go?

Flights generally range from treetop level to about 3,000 feet above the ground. Altitude varies based on wind conditions and the pilot’s navigation.

How far do you travel?

Distance depends on wind speed and direction, typically 5–20 kilometers. A retrieval vehicle follows the balloon via radio contact to ensure a smooth landing and pickup.

Does it get cold up there?

It can feel cooler at first, but the temperature usually warms as the flight progresses. In fact, it can be warmer inside the balloon than on the ground due to the heat from the burner.

What happens if the weather is bad and my flight is cancelled?

Safety is our top priority. Flights may be cancelled if weather conditions are unsuitable. If this happens, you can:

  • Rebook your flight at a convenient date, or
  • Receive a refund if rescheduling isn’t possible.

We want your experience to be memorable for all the right reasons—never stressful!
